Fluoride is a chemical compound that strengthens enamel, prevents decay, and whitens your teeth. There are many over-the-counter toothpastes and mouthwashes containing it, but in-office applications are more effective.
Who’s a Good Candidate for Fluoride Treatment?
We recommend fluoride treatments for the following:
- Children benefit from fluoride treatment because their teeth are developing, and they’re still learning how to practice proper dental care.
- People with a history of cavities benefit from fluoride treatment because it can reverse small cavities, and prevent future ones.
- People over the age of 50 benefit from fluoride treatment because it helps protect against root decay.
The wrong amount of fluoride can be detrimental to one's teeth, which is why we recommend speaking with a dentist to determine whether fluoride treatment is right for you.
Our In-Office Fluoride Treatment Process
Professional treatments don’t typically take long. Once we’re finished, you should abstain from eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes. This gives the fluoride time to be fully absorbed. At this point, you can resume your normal dietary habits.
The fluoride treatment schedule we suggest varies depending on a patient’s needs.
